Breed
Curious about your dog's breed?
Our comprehensive test analyzes your dog's entire genome and compares it to over 300 reference breeds to determine the breed composition. With one of the largest and continuously expanding reference breed databases available, we meticulously match each region of your pup's DNA to our database, providing an accurate breakdown of the breeds that make up your furry friend.
Health
What health markers do we test for?
Our comprehensive Dog DNA Test analyzes 80 health and trait markers, drawing on the OMIA (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals) database. This test offers deep insights into your dog's genetic makeup, focusing on inherited diseases and key traits such as coat color, size, and behavior tendencies. The OMIA database is a leading resource for genetic information, ensuring that our test provides the most accurate and relevant results. Discover what your dog’s DNA reveals to take proactive steps toward their well-being.
More Information
How does our test differ from other dog DNA tests?
Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is like getting a full map of a dog's DNA, offering many benefits over older DNA tests like microarrays. Imagine if microarrays give us snapshots of a dog's genetics, then WGS gives us the entire map. This means we can see all the tiny details in a dog's genes, not just what we were looking for. It helps us find rare or new genetic traits that older tests might miss. This is important for understanding a dog's health, where they come from, and even unique things about their breed. Plus, as this technology gets better and cheaper, it's a gift that keeps on giving. We can keep learning new things from the same DNA data without having to test again. This makes WGS a more detailed and valuable tool for learning about our furry friends' genetic health and history.

Let customers speak for us
from 36 reviewsReceived report in 3 weeks. Was very pleased with results. Was what I expected, but needed proof because of places I go. Good info, great price.
Easy process from sample to signing up. Can see that it was received, now the wait. Funny, the only bad reviews are from people who simply don’t like or disagree with results😂. I know half my girls DNA so I’m excited to see the rest! As an ex-zookeeper and animal caretaker for 20+ years, I know all is not always as it appears!
Let me start by saying that I did some research before deciding on utilizing ProperK9's services. I compared a few other DNA companies and opted for this one based off of value (not just cost wise, but that they offered more than other places). I didn't know a lot about my dog other than the pregnancy was a surprise/accident. I knew his mom was a German Shephard, but didn't know the dad (I was told there were 2 male dogs in the house). After seeing the results of this test (which came 2 weeks sooner than I thought they would), I was a little surprised. It certainly gives me a direction to go and I'll be sharing the information with my vet. Worth the money for me and very informative, I'd do it again.
Easy enough to order. Quick shipping. Waiting on results.
I adopted a pup from our local rescue from a litter of 7 puppies. They said she was a Retriever/Lab mix. My groomer said she looked like a Rottweiler bc of her coloring on her paws. I was relieved to see there was no Rotty in her DNA.
i was so surprised at the results but so enjoyed looking up each breed of dog that hazel has in her dna
Easy to use and mail back. Haven’t gotten results back yet. It’s only been a week.
I haven’t received the results back yet, but did have a small issues in which I needed to contact customer service, and they were wonderful!
It was nice working with such a professional agency. I'm glad to know my dog doesn't have MDR1 gene. I was surprised at her breed findings as I was told she was a Dutch shepherd when I adopted her at 5 months old. I'm worried about her hips now as she's 35% boxer and other shepherd breeds, none of which have curly tails like her. I was also surprised she is high on the inbred chart so I'll speak to vet about that.
It does take awhile to get results, but totally worth it! I have a rescue dog who is now my service dog, as well as a competitive athlete. Ethically I will retire him around age 10 but due to him being a rescued stray, I had no idea when I'll need to look at training his successor (it takes about 2 years of training). Now I know he's 3 years old. Looking forward to a nice long time with this partner by my side.
Our dog's oral test results came back from Prosper K9. On a scale of 1-10, he scored a 2 which is terrible. They were able to isolate the three bad bacteria that cause periodontal disease in dogs. One was medium, two were high, not good. The two main good bacteria he scored low on the quantity of these beneficial oral strains. Again not good. We adopted him a year ago, when he were told he was 1. The other ProsperK9 age test places him more in the age range of 3. I'm hoping once I share this report with our vet he can do some dental treatments to get his oral health back to a healthier state. One of the bad bacteria he scored of concern, P. Gulae is especially concerning because it can be transmitted to humans, no kisses for now. Also, it's been linked to mitral valve regurgitation disease according to one study. That condition can cause dogs heart murmurs and in time congestive hear failure. Our vet has his work cut out for him. We are so very glad to have this information because it's so important to see if we can improve not only his oral health now and in the future but prevent any health conditions to develop as he gets older. This is such an important vital test to the overall wellness for your pet.
Both of our dogs that were adopted were misclassified by the shelters. It was very helpful to understand what breeds actually make up our mutts.
Our family was surprised when these precise DNA results came in for our dog's breed. He was adopted from a dog rescue and were told that he was, according to their test results from a pet store DNA test kit a Chihuahua mix. The mix they said by their best guess was either a Dachshund and/or Jack Russell Terrier. Wrong! It took a more in-depth and experienced canine genetic testing company -Prosper K9 to test his DNA accurately. They discovered he was not any of the breeds the rescue stated! Well except the Dachshund part is one of his lines, but he has 4 other lines mixed into him. The primary one being Shih Tzu! No matter what he is, we love him all the same. We just wanted to know so we could familiarize ourselves with his real combination of breeds. The other parts of his results were outstanding! Not genetically predisposed to any health conditions. Awesome! Low results on inbreeding. Thank you ProsperK9 for clarifying all these true traits for our beloved pet and family. Your expertise, kindness and excellent customer service is greatly appreciated!
I have done the dog age test twice and I truly believe it was spot on and it’s great information to have when you don’t know when your adopted dog was born. Thank you!
